The hard-swinging Dave Scott Quartet is taking a page out of modern jazz history, harkening back to the days when all-star musicians from the great big bands would form up into smaller groups led by stars like Johnny Hodges and Sweets Edison to show off their skills as bebop masters. Led by lyrical, soaring trumpeter Dave Scott, his jazz quartet offers a foursome of the San Francisco Bay Area’s most compelling jazz musicians, players who, among their many talents, are vital members of San Francisco big bands including the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra the Contemporary Jazz Orchestra. In this classic quartet setting, these four local stars step out to reaffirm their status as vibrant modern jazz luminaries. All compositions by Dave Scott.

On this wonderful CD, Dr. Peterson finds poignancy of emotion using Shearing-like voicings and expert sustain pedal work and touch, while Scott soars on his cornet with world-class tone and expression. The richness, and somber beauty of these songs, taken from the "Great American Songbook", combined with the fluidity, nuance, and and sensitive touch of Dr. Peterson and Dave Scott, make for a tremendous musical result. The flowing arrangements were created organically over a period of years, product of the duo's regular performances together.
